Leto II
Never in the history
of mankind has such an incredible metamorphosis involved a human being. Upon
taking on a protective skin of sandtrout--an early stage of the Arrakis sandworm--Leto
bonded with the organisms, to begin a change of his genetic makeup. Over the
span of thousands of years, Leto Atreides II slowly changed from the body of
a young boy, to a sandworm. The evolutionary process was slow, but it gave Leto
semi-immortality. The price he paid for this transformation was his humanity,
as he became cut off from human emotion, and the simple thought patterns of
humans. Leto's goal--the Golden Path--was some kind of glorification, an evolution
if you will, to the human race. After taking control of the Imperium, Leto II
conquered galaxies, crushed insurrection, and stamped out his enemies through
the use of his all-female army called the Fishspeakers. Leto's vision was to
create the perfect universe with the perfect human race devoid of all of humanities
negative qualities. But, in his actions, Leto became more like a ruthless dictator,
one devoid of feeling and compasion who brought oppression upon the shoulders
of Man like never before. In the end, his rule would finish with his death as
the ghola Duncan Idaho--created by the Tleilaxu from order of Leto himself--killed
the Tyrant and ended his grip on the Imperium. The only question remained was
whether the Imperium would be better off without him...
