Negli ultimi 4 anni 27 libri di Kevin J. Anderson sono giunti al primo posto per numero di copie vendute in varie nazioni con più di 11 milioni di copie vendute. I suoi lavori sono stati tradotti in tedesco, olandese, giapponese, spagnolo, francese, rumeno, greco, russo, portoghese, finlandese, svedese, norvegiese, italiano, ungherese, cinese, indonesiano, ebraico, coreano, sloveno, estone e polacco.

La sua trilogia intitolata " STAR WARS Jedi Academy" è stata tra le tre più vendute del 1994. Ha anche collborato a numerosi progetti per la Lucasfilm, tra cui i 14 volumi del "New York times bestselling Young Jedi Knights series" ( in collaborazione con la propria moglie Rebecca Moesta ). Le sue tre originarie antologie su Star Wars sono le più vendute, per la propria categoria, di ogni tempo.

Anderson è autore di tre originali storie della serie X-Files; tutte e tre sono divenute bestsellers internazionali, la prima delle quali raggiunse il primo posto sul London Sunday Times. "Ground Zero" è stata eletta come "Best Science Fiction Novel of 1995" dai lettori del SFX magazine.

Recentemente ha collaborato alla stesura di numerosi libri in collaborazione con Brian Herbert ambientati nell'universo di Dune, creato da Frank Herbert.

Il thriller "Ignition", scritto con Doug Beason, è stato acquistato dalla Universal Studios per farne un film. I libri di Anderson e Beason sono stati nominati per il premio Nebula e per il premio della American Physics Society's forum. Le loro altre storie includono "Virtual Distruction e Fallout" le quali sono state opzionate dalla ABC TV per la possibile futura realizzazione di film o miniserie.

Anderson propose la sua prima storia breve a un magazine quando era un fresco studente dell'high school e collezionò 80 rifiuti per vari manoscritti prima che una sua storia venisse accettata, dopo due anni. Riuscì a vendere il suo primo racconto al compimento del venticinquesimo anno. Lavorò in California per 12 anni come scrittore tecnico ed editore al Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, uno dei quattro più grandi complessi di ricerca della nazione. Ai laboratory Livermore conobbe sua moglie Rebecca Moesta e frequentò quello che poi divene suo coautore, Doug Beason. Dopo aver pubblicato dieci racconti di SF acclamati universalmente dalla critica, suscitò l'attenzione della Lucasfilm e gli fu offerta la possibilità di scrivere storie su Star Wars.

Along the way he also collected over 700 rejection slips, and a trophy as "The Writer with No Future" because he could produce more rejection slips by weight than any other writer at an entire conference. When asked for advice about how to be a successful writer, he answers quickly: PERSISTENCE!

Collezionò oltre 700 rifiuti e un trofeo come "Lo Scrittore Senza Futuro".

Le sue ricerche lo portarono sulla cima del Monte Whitney e sul fondo del Grand Canyon, dentro la Cheyenne Mountain nel complesso del NORAD, dentro il sito missilistico a Minuteman III, a Cape Canaveral ed in molti altri luoghi che avevano suscitato il suo interesse.

Grande camminatore, è solito scrivere durante lunghissime passeggiate in luoghi sperduti con il suo fido regitratore.
